how to modify Grub or mgr so that I can boot into windows 7 instead of Neogrub

I have installed windows7 in C drive. Now I use easyBCD to install ubuntu. I followed the steps according to an article which teaches how to install ubuntu-windows dual system(not in English, so I don't paste the link here). I put the ubuntu ISO in C drive and t**hen use easybcd to set boot from **Neogrub** instead of windows7.** So the idea is that after I reboot the system, the system will load the ubuntu ISO image for installation.

However, since I made some mistakes. I failed in installing ubuntu and I cannot enter WINDOW7 again. Coz after booting, I always boot into Neogrub, and enter the interface which only shows "install ubuntu".

Later I installed ubuntu from USB(not in C drive), and now I still cannot enter windows7.

yes, there is a "WINDOWS7" option after booting, but when I click it, it just redirects to Neogrub, and "install ubuntu" instead of entering WINDOW7 system.

I checked C drive under ubuntu, and I see some files like ```bootmgr, NeoGrub, OEMSF, pagefile.sys```, so what can I do so that I can enter windows 7 ?

I installed grub-customizer, and I notice the source for WINDOWS7 option is:

Code:

    insmod part_msdos
    insmod ntfs
    set root='hd0,msdos1'
    if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,msdos1 --hint-efi=hd0,msdos1 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,msdos1  BA484E09484DC53B
    else
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root BA484E09484DC53B
    fi
    parttool ${root} hidden-
    chainloader +1

BTW, my grub info:

unmountable boot volume

Hello,

I have a triple boot xp, vista, win7 system on my HTPC. After the latest Windows updates (which may or may not be related) I had a BSOD with the message unmountable_boot_volume for my Windows 7. I have tried all the repair options but none successfully. Chkdsk was attempted numberous times and ran overnight. It did fix some errors but did not complete as it hung on one particular file number in verifying file data. I was unable to run bootrec /fixboot because the drive letter D: could not be accessed from the command prompt. Also repair shows the Win7 partition as size zero. Any other support would be much appreciated.

EasyBCD Help Please

I learned about Easy BCD and found the software quite useful trying to solve some problems with my win7 installation. I also downloaded the Win7 Recovery Disk Professional and used it to run a Virus check on my desktop with Win7 Prof. It found about 7 threads which were remoived. I than ran the recovery function and it gave my desktop a clean bill of health. i then tried to run the disk on my HP Pavilion dv6-6023 TX laptop with Win 7 . After starting the laptop with the Recovery disk in the drive I clicked ESC to enter the boot sequence and I selected to start from the CD drive. Unfortunately nothing happened, I tried it a couple of times but so far I was not able to start the recovery program. Can you help me with this problem

Ubuntu Linux 14.04 not booting from EasyBCD 2.2

I purchased EasyBCD 2.2 the other day as I've been working to set up my 64-bit, i7-4770K based system that's EFI-based. The system boots to Windows 8 on the primary drive and can also boot to Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux 14.04 on the secondary drive.

I have been able to install Windows 8 and Windows 7 using EasyBCD with little trouble. (The only issue I had was EasyBCD creating the Windows 7 boot file with the .exe file extension instead of the .efi extension, but I was able to fix that using bcdedit.) I followed the instructions in the user manual, which are also in the blog, for setting up Ubuntu Linux. Now when I try to boot to Ubuntu Linux in Windows Boot Manager, I get the error message 0xc000007b. Apparently either WBM or Ubuntu Linux doesn't like the generated .mbr file created by EasyBCD.

Though I can reinstall Ubuntu Linux and then launch either Ubuntu Linux or either version of Windows from GRUB2, I'd much rather use EasyBCD to set up Windows Boot Manager because Windows performs much better when launched from WBM as opposed to GRUB2.

The instruction manual as well as the Knowledgebase article about installing Ubuntu Linux talks about version 10.04, so perhaps this information is outdated. If there are any updated instructions, please let me know so I can resolve this problem and start setting up Ubuntu Linux. Thanks for your attention.

Booting into Win8.1 Home requires the XP partition. How to Remove XP?

I have a 7yr old Dell (core2 duo) which started with XP and now has both XP and Win8.1 x64 Home.
XP and Win8 are on different physical drives but booting Win8 will hang if I remove the XP drive.
I want to completely remove XP so I have only Win8.
I uploaded 2 attachments: A screen capture of Drive Manager; and
EasyBCD Detailed Settings info ( http://tny.cz/be35804b )

FWIW....

  • I plan to install a SSD after I get XP removed. I could get the SSD now if that would make it easier to fix.
  • The Dell has an Intel Raid controller but none of the volumes are striped/spanned.

Thanks for any suggestions

Boot manager preventing selection of USB boot drive

$

I installed EasyBCD to attempt to set up a dual Linux boot on an external USB drive. I didn't find an option to do so and didn't select any options from the menus. On exit from EasyBCD and on reboot I found a new menu called "Boot Manager" when I hit F12 to select the boot order. This menu only permits the selection of the HD or netboot. I no longer have access to a USB boot option on the Windows HD.

Strangely, swapping the Windows HD with the Linux drive also causes the same "Boot Manager" menu to appear and of course the inability to boot by USB.

Does EasyBCD hook into the BIOS to intercept the boot order process? Otherwise how could the "Boot Manager" appear on 2 hard drives, one being Linux?

Can anyone explain how to remove this "Boot Manager" and restore access to the normal boot menu and my USB boot drives?

EasyBCD crashes - unknown device

HP Envy 7331Sa with Win 7 Ult x64
Second HD (SSD) in the dvd bay.
Both HDDs have a bootable C: partition and both are labelled Windows 7!

install and run (as admin) easyBCD2.2

View settings shows two entries
1 Windows 7 Default Device: unknown (This is the SSD)
but I can access the SSD and its partitions (2) quite happily in windows explorer.
2 Windows 7 Default Current: C:\ (This is the HDD)
This I can rename quite happily

When I try to rename entry #1 as soon as I hit save I get "EasyBCD has stopped working".

Any suggestions?

sp1 windows vista installation troubleshoot

hello forum,

i've recentlsp1 at 2.9ecovered a presario desktop that would not boot a preinstalled vista os using testdisk to recover the system recovery partition and flagged it to boot

it seems the recovery partition was a bit damaged, some programs weren't recovered, dll files were missing but i consider myself lucky, i'm sure there are situations where recovery requires more effort, i created a thread a month back in regards to the aforementioned issue here, special system and os recovery for presario sr2170nx, i'd like to thank ex_brit for his correspondence, he provided a great deal of help to fix that

although now i have a new problem, don't know if the inquiry belongs here, if not some redirection would be appreciated

i'm in the process of updating drivers, hardware, and software for the presario and have an issue with installing sp1

i've come across this problem before, with sp2 in the past, downloading the standalone solved this, i didn't have issues downloading sp1 from windows update then either if my memory serves correct

windows update also shows sp1 at 1.9 mb, i know that isn't correct so i haven't bothered installing it

i've researched this error without proper response from microsoft in regards to the issue directly, read through related kb articles, used the various fixit tools, but again nothing directly related has been found to fix this

it seems this is a problem with a variety of ways to address it so i ask if there is one in particular that will fix this

all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated

error c000000e winload.exe fix for vista

hello forum

this is a strange issue, the vista is booting properly, i've found this error in system recovery using f11 key options

don't know if i should be truly concerned, but in an attempt to access vista recovery i'm met with error c000000e, winload.exe missing

researched this and it seems error c000000e only applies to win7, i warrant a correction

win7 was previously installed on the presario i'm using unsuccessfully which required me to factory reset to vista

i'm wondering if win7 still exist on the c drive, in registry or otherwise and how to completely clean it

i can send screenshots if needed

any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Is this expected behavior?

Drive letter change

Hi, I have two Windows 7 on separate disks because in case something goes wrong I can use the other Windows. The Problem is that the one on the HDD is booting with drive letter F while it should be C which causes problems because this Windows was initially installed with the letter C. When I am in the SSD Windows it has letter I so there is some automatism that changes the letters from I to F. How can I get EasyBCD to change it from I to C when it boots? I tried BCB Backup/Repair/change boot drive, but this only changes the drive from where the boot menu is loaded. The help in EasyBCD is not very clear and vague so I hope somebody can help me.

Why is text editing NOT available in EasyBCD

$

I have a problem that EasyBCD created and I cannot fix because text editing is not available in Display Mode.

First I am using Hard Drives larger than Windows supports i.e. 3TB and 4TB and I have installed them using GPT and Uefi and silly me Seeing that EasyBCD was compatible with EFI or (Uefi) used EasyBCD to edit the boot information.
First I deleted one of the drives in the "View Setting" with "Edit Boot Menu" then recreated the Drive with it's proper name, except when I went back to the "View Setting" EasyBCD had changed more than the name, and I can't get what it changed back, because there is nowhere to edit manually....

The part that was changed was that a Drive using MBR is pointed to winload.exe but a Drive using EFI is pointed to winload.efi and of course the EFI can't boot because it is being pointed to the wrong file.
If I could use an editor I could change it back in the blink of an eye, but NO where in EasyBCD can you do that (to my knowledge) it is so frustrating.

What is worse is that I can't find anywhere on the Internet a program that can help, I have spent days looking and trying programs, and none will do it.
If I don't find a solution in the next day or so, I will have no option but to back everything up on the drive and re-install Win8.1 Just so that I can boot from it again.
Oh, I tried EasyRE 8, and it was useless, it couldn't even find a problem, which I could understand if Win8 and 8.1 had just been released but they have been around for over 2 years, and Windows 9 is not far away either.

EasyBCD is just NOT USER FRIENDLY to Win 8 & 8.1 and the words "compatible with 8" should be removed before some else makes a simple mistake IMO.
I even paid for EasyBCD about a month or so ago, and a copy of EasyRE 8, not that much, but money is money, and it's cost me a huge amount in lost time, something like 48+ hours.

If anybody knows of something that will help me fix these three letters, I will be extremely thankful

Easy RE fails to restore my Win7

I have a PC with myltiple HDDs. Win7 i sinstalled on HDD1, while the boot loader was installed on HDD2 (this is due to historical reasons). Now the HDD2 is dead. I'm trying to boot to my Win7 since it is all on the HDD1 except of the boot loader. Easy RE can see my Win7 in the automatic repair option. But when I click to repair it outputs:

Preparing to repair Windows partition on /dev/ada0s2
  • Volume identified as NTFS
  • Searching for boot-related problems...
  • Rewriting the MBR on /dev/ada0
  • Rebuilding the bootsector on /dev/ada0s1
  • Failed to rewrite bootsector! Check logs for more details.
  • Unable to proceed with the repair of this volume. Check logs for more details.

Is there anything elase I can try to do with Easy RE in order to restore my Win7 load? And where is the logs which I can check in order to undersand the cause of trouble?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew
