Winload.exe missing or corrupt

Hello it jedi's, I am a man in need of help.
I do not have much technical knowledge so please keep that in mind.

My computer running Vista Home Premium would not go past Startup repair anymore. It ran forever and ever.
So today i purchased NeoSmart's vista boot thingy on someone else's computer to solve my problem.

finally my computer did something else than endless reruns of startup repair.
i ran the Automated repair untill it said it was done and rebooted.

now, every time I restart my computer says:
Winload.exe is missing or corrupt etc etc.
Since Acer doesn't provide their clients with Windows Vista dvd's, i kept running the Automated Repair with the same result every time.
i saw someone else here with the same problem and he was advised to do something called 'chkdsk'by using the launch command line. I tried this but it either said that it was a bad command or it did nothing.

I have an Acer Aspire M3641
windows vista home premium installed on my C drive

Thanks in advance for any help!

EasyBCD opens to an empty BCD

This PC has 2 HDD with Windows 7 installed on each. The primary system is HDD 0 partition 1.
With the primary system booted:

1. When I start EasyBCD it opens with an empty BCD (no entries).

2. If I use Select BCD Store and try to open the BCD file in C:\Boot I get a message that the file is in use.

3. If I then try Load System BCD I get the BCD that I see when the PC boots.

What is going on and does the result in #1 tell me that the System BCD is in fact the one in C:\Boot?

Windows Vista Recovery disc will not open

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude ATG D620 it is stuck in windows boot manager with the code 0xc000000f and file: \windows\system32\winload.exe. It has Vista business installed, I ordered your recovery disc for vista professional and burnt it to a cd using IMG Burn. I loaded it in to the and started up the computer and you can hear the disc spin but the program will not open. Any help would be appreciated, thanks Ken Same day 4pm, went in to bios and changed order so cd/dvd was in #1 spot now it will open cd, it scrolled thru a list of files and now it is sitting in the same spot which is a black screen with the date on top and a picture of a house in the bottom left corner with the word applications next to it. The mouse is inop and no recovery options screen . Same day 520pm tried the procedure again this time the screen came and I chose the first option which was repair. It did it's thing and then said it was fixed and to remove disc and re-boot computer, which I did but came back to same error screen and computer still will not work. I then tried the repair a couple of more times, each time it would scroll a bunch of files but screen with repair options never comes up.

2 Boot Screens? Windows 8, added Ubuntu, used EasyBCD...now have 2 boot screens!

I used the tutorial here Installing Ubuntu on a Pre-Installed Windows 8 (64-bit) System (UEFI Supported) - Ask Ubuntu to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for dual-boot on my Windows 8.1 UEFI machine (8 was factory installed first).

It worked, but the result was a Linux boot screen (says it's version 1.99) with a list of about 10 boot options, so I thought I would like to simplify and just get two options (either Linux or Windows) by using Easy BCD.

After doing the steps for Easy BCD as shown in the guide, I now have TWO successive boot screens.

Upon startup I see:

First: The Linux bootloader (offering all those options as mentioned previously).

Second: If I choose Windows 8 UEFI from the Linux boot loader, then Windows shows me "ANOTHER" choice to select either Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Windows 8.1.

Will someone please tell me how I can get rid of one of the sets of options for which OS to boot?

I would "prefer" to have the Windows bootloader offer just Ubuntu or Windows, like I was trying to accomplish (seeing nothing else to do with Ubuntu unless I choose that OS).

But if that's not possible for some reason, at least get me back to where I was before using EasyBCD...with the Linux bootloader?

Thanks so very much...

Win 7 booting into Sandisk SSD hangs.

Hi all, I've cloned Win 7 onto Sandisk SSD.
Boot up hangs from a cold start until I go into f2 Bios, which takes awhile, and....... don't change anything, just save and exit, thereafter boot up is completed smoothly.
I've downloaded easy BCD, here's the entry ;
There is one entry in the Windows bootloader.

Default: Windows 7
Timeout: 30 seconds
Boot Drive: C:\

Entry #1
Name: Windows 7
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Any ideas please?

Thanks

this option is only available on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8

Hi, I have searched your forums and google and could not find a reference for my issue.

I have 2 separate hard drives, all instructions refer to partitions so i have assumed the same goes for partitions on separate physical hard drives. I have Windows 8.1 on the first hard drive (C:) which was installed fresh to a single partition on the hard drive, and updated. So i shut the pc down. I then put the second hard drive (D:) into the desktop and install windows xp from the disc, using boot order selector to select cd, and onto, again just one partition on the drive. After all updates I then installed EasyBCD onto the machine that now only boots xp, which is inline with the article I have been following:

Installing XP as a second OS

I reference: "If you’re installing Windows XP to a SATA drive, make sure you hit F6 to load the SATA drives."

I tried pressing F6 but it said it couldn't find anything so i continued with installation and had no problems, I assumed sata drivers were loaded as both drives are sata drives and i have windows xp running on one of those sata drives. So i go to BCD deployment, in the drop down it shows both partitions, so with C: (Windows 8.1) selected i click "Install the Windows Vista/7 bootloader to the MBR" and get this message:

"this option is only available on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8" - yet this is my Windows 8.1 install drive and i can view the files on it within the file manager window. I even tried it on the Xp partition and got the same message as expected. So for some reason EasyBCD is not seeing my initial Windows 8.1.

So I am stopped in my tracks, please help. Even a method that involves a re-install on win8.1 would be ok as I have no personal data on that drive yet. or even all of it if there is a better method, it makes no difference to me which way round they are installed.

Thanks in advance
Fred

Dual-Boot problem using EasyBCD 2.2

Dual-Boot problem using EasyBCD 2.2.

I need to dual-boot Windows-7 and Windows-ME. I have asystem hard drive partitioned with two partitions, one for Win-ME (FAT 32) andthe other for Win-7 (NTFS). The Win-ME system was installed first and wasoperating properly. After installing Win-7 on the other partition the computerwould only boot into Win-7. So I installed EasyBCD 2.2 and was then able toboot into either OS. It seemed to be working OK, so I spent most of the dayinstalling software on the Win-7 system. All the software (much of it old)installed and seemed to work properly on the Win-7 system.

I then attempted to boot into the Win-ME system (the Win-7 boot loader menu hadnot changed and showed both systems, as before). But instead of loading myWin-ME system, the screen displayed the following message in a DOS format:

GRUB4DOS 0.4.5c 2012-06-19. Mem: 638K/2038M/0M, End:3548DB

[ Minimal BASH-like line ending is supported. For the first word, TAB listspossible command complications. Anywhere else TAB lists the possiblecomplications of a device/filename. ]
grub>

Pressing the TAB key returns a long list of English words that have no meaningfor me.

I tried many things. Uninstalled all the software on Win-7, no help.Reinstalled Win-7, no help. The Win-7 boot loader menu still showed both OSsbut the same error message displayed when I selected the Win-ME OS. If theWin-7 OS was chosen it booted normally to Win-7. So, finally I decided to notonly re-install Win-7 but to re-format the Win-7 hard drive partition first. After doing this I could again boot to either OS using EasyBCD 2.2. I thenbegan to re-install software, on at a time, and check after each installationif the problem re-occurred. What I found is, after certain older programs wereinstalled the problem occurred – and the only way to recover was to againre-format the Windows-7 partition, re-install Win-7 and start over.

I found that the following older programs will installand run properly under Windows-7 and they cause no problems AS LONG ASWINDOWS-7 IS THE ONLY OPERATING SYSTEM AND DUAL-BOOT IS NOT NEEDED. But all ofthem cause the above-described dual-boot problem.

Adobe Illustrator 7.0
Adobe Photoshop LE 2.0
Adpbe Pagemaker 6.5
And several others that were written duing the Windows-95through Windows-ME period.

My system is now operating well, and I can run theseolder programs using the Windows-ME system, which is the other system to whichI dual-boot. But, since the above listed programs will all install and runproperly under Windows-7, and cause no problem as long as Windows-7 is the ONLYoperating system, WHY does installing them cause this inability to dual-boot?

I am now living in fear that some program I may installto Windows-7 will again cause this problem.

Unable to find any valid windows partitions on this computer...

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours recovering my wife's PC from a boot error; "Ox...", which occurred after a power outage.
This was eventually achieved by using the Windows 7 Recovery disk from NeoSmart.

This morning my computer present a similar message on startup; Boot error status Oxc0000098, without there having been a power outage.
I thought the Windows 7 Installation disk Repait utility would fix this. It gave me a message that the Windows version on the computer was incompatible with the Installation disk (despite having been loaded from that disk).
Given my success yesterday I thought using the NeoSmart recovery disk would be the answer.
However, on getting the RD to boot and applying the Repair option I was presented with the following message.
"Unable to find any valid Windows partitions on this computer..."
I opted to take the command prompt alternative and blundered around for a while. This revealed that the partition sector did not have an end mark. I tried unsuccessfully to rectify.
I tried the MBR code write option, then rebooted but the same boot error reappeared.
I tried rebooting from the reboot alternatives; Sata PS and PM plus UEFI, all without success. I then retried the Windows 7 Installation disk repair utility again. This time it worked.

Questions:
The only thing I can think that caused this was something I did when after I had downloaded EasyBCD yesterday (before discovering it did not fix boot errors). At some stage when I was trying to use Easy BCD it asked if I wanted to create a partition. I did not realise that in doing so I would possibly corrupt by boot directory. I would appreciate someone speculating on what I may have done.

Why did the recovery disk not work given its sole purpose is to fix such problems?

EasyBCD tries to boot NST\*.MBR file on UEFI, while it should load .EFI file?

I am trying to boot a ISO in UEFI mode, seem EasyBCD tries to load a .MBR file instead of an .EFI file?

Any help with this?

Booting the ISO does work in BIOS mode (I edited BOTH the UEFI BCD and the BIOS BCD with EasyBCD by booting first into bios, then add my ISO entries, shutdown, and then boot into uefi, add my ISO entries again, then shutdown. my HDD has a windows to go install which can boot into both bios and uefi)

Hi guys,
I hope I have posted this correctly....

after googling my error message this picture came up prompting me to join this forum...
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...ng-corrupt.png

It is a screen shot of exactly what I have ran into after a failed install of a usb bootable xp.

halfway thru the install the pc rebooted to finish and I got the error message right after bios loads..... windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt hal.dll.... I have since decided to use a usb bootable version of win8 to install on the new 1tb hard drive, the only problem is that when I start the computer after the bios loads it goes straight to the above error message from the previous failed install of XP and will not boot from the new USB....I do not have a recovery partition or a cd/dvd...how can I get the computer to just boot from the new usb and get rid of this message?? do I need to wipe the drive without an os somehow ? I just have no idea

Thanks in advance for your help!

Getting 0xc000000f file missing or corrupt for winload.exe

My Pavilion dv6 Windows 7 64 bit was perhaps in the middle of an update when I force shut it down.

Thereafter it would not launch windows, but would keep asking me to do a system repair. The system repair would just show a light blue screen (not BSOD) and sit there for hours.

I purchase Windows Easy Recovery Essentials and attempted an automatic repair. It said it found an incomplete windows update, and rolled it back. It also did the usual re-writing MBR etc etc.

Thereafter, Windows would keep rebooting. I set it up to show me the error and not auto restart and got a BSOD with:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error.

So I went from one problem to another.

Thereafter I tried the steps in https://neosmart.net/wiki/recovering...ows_Bootloader. I am now facing the 0xc000000f missing or corrupt winload.exe problem.

The file system is fine, because Shift+F10 -> Command Prompt -> chkdsk from the Windows bootable, did not find any error.

I am able to browse the file system using pcman from Easy RE linux.

I even substituted a healthy winload.exe from another windows 7 home premium 64 bit install. Still no dice.

I've tried emailing support from NeoSmart, but there has been no response. Admittedley it's just been a day.

I am using Asus windows 8.1 X64 laptop.

It has added “Windows Boot manager” to Boot menu. I deleted this entry andre-booted the computer. This entry came back. I tried several times.
What is the problem?

Now when I boot the computer I get Windows Boot mangermenu. Before I was getting boot menu from Easy BCD
What is the problem?

Thanks

Can't fix boot option to include System Restore from Recovery Partition!

I was in the process of setting up a dual boot setup with two hard drives and I accidentally deleted the entry that allowed me to boot from the Recovery Partition (called "System Restore" on my computer). My new hard drive had the recovery partition pre-installed along with Windows 7. Everything on both hard drives was there initially in EasyBCD as options to select for the boot menu when you start the system. Why is it so difficult to get it all back as a boot option? I thought EasyBCD can detect all the partitions and options to boot, which can then be edited in EasyBCD. Please tell me there's a way to fix this without having to be some kind of genius at coding.

I'm trying to repair Win 8.1 64-bit with EasyRE as my boot files are corrupt. I've been running automated repair for over 2 hrs and it's still stuck on the Please Wait message. How long does this process take and what should I do if it is stuck?

Dual-boot 7-64 & XP-32 Setup Problem

Forgive me if this has been covered previously. I didn't see it addressed but there are a lot of threads here...

I'm trying to use EasyBCD to set up a dual-boot, and I can't even get to the point where I can use EasyBCD. I already have Windows 7 64-bit installed on my C drive. I would like to install XP 32-bit on my E drive, which is a separate physical drive. I had already done this successfully with XP 64-bit previously, but alas it's 32-bit that I need instead.

After deleting the partition (on E) and creating a new one and formatting with the XP installer, I set it to install on that partition. After loading all the setup files it went to its first reboot, and then I got the "invalid BOOT.INI file" message, whereupon it tried to reboot, got the same message and tried to reboot... The only thing I could think of is to repair the Windows 7 OS from its install disc so it would at least boot into something.

I have seen references to the BOOT.INI problem and there's a whole page about it in the NeoSmart knowledge database, but everything I'm finding requires getting into the XP OS to repair the file, using the recovery console or other software or doing it manually. The problem is, there's no XP for me to get into to do this - it happens from the first reboot, before anything besides the initial setup info is actually installed. There's no operating system there yet.

Now that I have Windows 7 bootable again, is there something I can do from it to get the XP install to work, or will anything I do just be overwritten the next time I try to install XP? Or is there some other solution? I'm stumped and I've done a lot of googling so far. Thanks!

DUAL BBOT WITH 2 HDD

I have 2 HDD.
Each has one windows 8.1

Drive 1 - pre-install Windows 8.1 and other partitions such as recovery, system etc.

Drive 0 - was empty - I installed another copy of windows 8.1

Easy BCD is installed on Drive 1 (which contains pre-installed windows 8.1)

For Easy BCD I assigned drive letters as appears in Windows explorer.

I can NOT boot to windows on Drive 0 (os that I installed) using easyBCD menu at boot time. However, I can boot to this windows by going to bios.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
