What must be done to recover the EasyBCD and my Vista on partition (D:)?

$

Starting 2 weeks ago, the PC has been behaving abnormally:
1. Automatical shut-downs.
2. Crashings.

Almost the same time, a message from Neosmart Technologies inforning the new version.
I did not install the new version. No need, I thought, since I do not use Win8.

During the start of my PC today, a message popped up saying something like the EasyBCD boot configuration data could not be found... and asked me if I would manually install the BCD for EasyBCD.... I did not trust it.

The system automatically booted into Win7. I tried to open EasyBCD. The same message popped up. Again, I did not do anything the message asked or suggested. The appearance of the message looked suspicious. There was a red icon at the lower left corner stating: Powered by {SA}.
And there were a SAVE button & a SEND button.

The partition used to contain Win Vista is now empty, showing only a letter (D:) without any content.

Downloaded EasyBCD2.2 from Softpedia and from Neosmart Technologies. Both could not be installed. The same message stopped the installation. It seems that it wants me to manually install something, namely the BCD.

1. Is the message from Neosmart Technologies?
2. What must be done to recover the EasyBCD and my Vista on partition (D:)?

Thanks.

Dual boot win8/7 with win8 preinstalled?

Hello all,
I have done some extensive searching for a method or way to install win7 on my Hp Pavilion g7-2281nr notebook. It was pre-installed with win8 then up-graded to 8.1. I wish to install windows 7 on this system test and run programs/applications I use that will not run in the win8.1 environment. I seem not to be able to find a clear cut procedure to do this. I have already partitioned my 1G HDD to two equal partitions and named the target win7 partition. I have also installed EasyBCD but do not feel comfortable making any setting changes. I also have a win 7 install disk available. I am making a system image of existing configuration also.
I am an automotive technician, and with the support for winXP dwindling, the related software that I am using is being shifted to the win7 environment. The support for win8 is practically non-existent. Unfortunately this leaves me in this predicament. I have to up grade all my work systems to win7. I wish also to be able to use these programs now with my existing laptop.
Is there any one that has tried this? If so could I ask if you would share the procedure?

Respectfully,
William

How to safely rid my Drive 0 of Win XP64 in favor of Win 7

I installed Windows 7 on a PC that was running XP Pro 64-bit such that the first partition is the old XP and the 2nd is the newer Windows 7. I later used EasyBCD to make W7 the preferred boot OS. According to this link:

Multibooters, Vista Dual and Multibooting - A Guide to the Multiboot Process

I believe that the bootmgr and BCD are on the first XP partition. I'm not sure what magic EasyBCD uses so... :scared: I'd like to get rid of XP 64 and wonder how the safest way to do this might be.

Thanks for any advice...!

Trouble booting in to XP on dual boot with Winows 7.

I have a dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7. When I select Windows 7 in the boot menu it boots OK. When I select XP I get a File: \NST\ntldr missing or corrupt status 0xc0000098. I have tried all the steps in the guides on this site to no avail. Xp is on the first physical drive(F drive in Windows 7) a 640 GB drive. Windows 7 is the second physical drive a 2 TB drive (C: of course). D: and E: are both 3 TB drives. I have tried everything form putting the files that the guide tells me to on every hard drive. I have downloaded the files and replaced them with the ones in the NST folder and the root directories of C;, D: and E:. I have tried putting the files on the 2 TB and 3 TB drives. One at a time and all at once. I have uninstalled and reinstalled EasyBCD. I have tried different versions of EasyBCD. I have tried everything I can think of. As far as I can tell Everything is pointing to the right places. Please help.

Muchas gracias.

Hi good morning. Sorry I'm using google translator but I have an urgent problem that I hope you can understand and solve. The problem is I installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop in UEFI mode. Then I installed Linux and the machine remained in the grub. From the bios boot options I selected "windows boot manager" and managed to get into windows 8.1. Here comes the error, when opening EasyBCD 2.2 deleted all entries from the boot menu and created one for windows and one for linux grub2. Now when you reach the boot menu windows appear both options but no start, and how terrible is that I no longer show the boot options in the bios, boot manager !!!! wimdows only, so it can not boot either from cd or usb or anything !!!
Options no longer appear either UEFI boot or legacy mode, I can access the bios but have deleted all boot options normally appeared at press f12. Sorry if I do not understand very well, please solicitenmé all necessary clarifications, to see if it is solvable !!!!.

Thank you very much.

Dual Boot Windows 7 and Fedora 20 does not work

Hi

I had a working configuration of Windows 7 and Fedora 19.

When I installed Fedora 19 I did choose not to install a boot loader.

Then I booted into Windows 7 and ran EasyBCD 2.2 and added the following entry:

- Type: GRUB 2
- Name: Fedora 19
- Drive: Automatically locate and load

This worked fine. EasyBCD found the Fedora 19 installation and loaded the kernel.

Now I replaced my Linux Install with Fedora 20. (Same partitions used)

I did exactly the same as when installing Fedora 19 but it simply doesn't work. When I choose
the boot option "Fedora 20" some text flushes by and then I am dropped to the Grub menu

GRUB>

BTW, I also tried the following article and installed the GRUB Bootloader into the PBX (/dev/sda3).
http://nmilosev.svbtle.com/fedora-20...ips-and-tricks

Without any luck. Boot process still ends with GRUB> prompt.

Any ideay why this worked with Fedora 19 but does not work with Fedora 20?

Regards,
Oliver

I have used EasyBCD successfully to dual boot my Windows XP and Windows 7 systems, but I recently upgraded my Win 7 to 64 bit Win8.1. I now cannot get the dual booting to work at all. I can get one or the other but not both. Can anyone suggest any solution please?

How to Download EasyBCD?!?!?!?

Seems to me to be a dumb question, but I'm trying to download the latest version of EasyBCD in order to sort out a multi-boot Windows 7 & 8 and can't find how to do it.

I get taken to the Plans section where i select Free Personal, fill in my name and email, get taken to a donation page where I've even tried donating and still nothing.

I've tried using both ie11 and Firefox with similar results.

Never had problems with previous versions.

Please can someone advise?

special system and os recovery for presario sr2170nx

hello forum

before i begin with my questions a bit of back story of how i got to where i'm at now

my problem began with a custom install of win7 which i initially understood would give me the option to multi boot

no such option was presented and win7 installed itself on top of the preinstalled vista bundle included with the presario

later found out that a win7 install isn't compatible with the presario graphics card

the os display required a bigger screen resolution so i decided to rollback to vista

i thought that would be a simple task but i ended up having to recover vista from a folder stored on the c drive, windows.old

the rollback didn't restore all the program files and so regretfully i decided i had to reset the presario to factory settings to clean this mess i made

later found out the recovery partition had been written over by win7, i could not access it in vista or by using the f11 key in the boot up screen

the selection had been erased

i figured a solution to this would be to uninstall win7 all together

did a bit of research and discovered easybcd would help to do this and was given an additional suggestion of using gparted to help in giving the empty space in the c drive left by win7 back to vista, seemed to make sense

long story short i seemed to have misused easybcd, win7 wasn't running alongside vista, vista was listed as win7 and following instructions for easybcd i may have deleted vista from the system unknowingly

booted into gparted and this is where the story ends

i currently have an unpartitioned drive

here are my questions, 1) is the presario now inoperable, if not and the data can be recovered 2) can a compaq system recovery disc help restore the compaq partition, 3) can a windows vista recovery disc help restore the vista os

i understand that the owner of this forum supplies these kinds of discs, i wonder if they can fix this

all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated

How can I change the bootloader back to the orginal system default?

Error when I try to start the virtual clone of the still working machine: nst\ntdlr 0xc0000225
I see there is a troubleshooting guide for NT based systems that are missing the ntdlr but that is for systems not using a BCD.
The second troubleshooting KB I see is for Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems that are getting a 0xc0000225 error code upon bootup.

My current system and virtual clone system no longer fall completely into one article or the other so I figure it's best to go the route of making the process easier for myself by restoring the boot process to the operating systems's default boot up process. I believe by setting it back to the default, if I attempt a new virtual clone it'll work as oppose to all the previous attempts that have failed so far with various error messages.

What is the best way for me to restore the boot loader back to the original default on the original physical boot system?

Boot Desinfec't 2014 (Ubuntu 12.04) from 2nd partition on USB-Stick

$

Hi,

I have an 64 GB USB-Stick.

The first primary partition is a NTFS partition with a Windows 8 recovery System, a Windows setup-System and additional data. The second primary partition is a fat32 Partition with Desinfec't 2014 (based on Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS) and the third primary partition has an ext4 file-system where the virus-signatures are stored.

Is there a possibility to boot to the second primary partition on an USB-Device (Windows can only access the first partition on an USB-Device directly - when I copy the second and the third partition to a fixed HDD this configuration works fine).

Many thanks in advance, Johann

0xc0000225 error, EasyRE seemingly not working

Hello,

I downloaded/purchased EasyRE because I am experiencing a "Windows failed to start" error (0xc0000225) and cannot even start windows or run safe mode (f9). Plus I didn't have the installation discs.

However, I have tried EasyRE via both CD and USB but both result in the same problem. I boot them up and am given the following choices:

Easy Recovery Essentials
Easy Recovery Essentials (VGA Mode)
Easy Recovery Essentials (Safe Mode)

I select one and it seems to be running fine; lines of text are scrolling and such. However, it all always stops and then my computer simply shows a blue box that says INPUT NOT SUPPORTED. My computer stays on and sounds like it's doing something, but I can't do anything.

However, SOMETIMES when I select Easy Recovery Essentials (VGA Mode) I am able to access the EasyRE menu with all the recovery options. Of course, I try selecting Autamated Repair but a green window with an animation that says PLEASE WAIT appears and sits there forever. I can't advance.

UPDATE: I was able to get the Automated Repair to work after a few tries but when I actually try to perform an 'Automated Repair' on my computer, I get in red text "The selected partition is corrupted and could not be accessed or repaired. Please select a different drive to continue." It is also labeled as NO under Active.

UPDATE 2: Since I do not have a the installation discs, I made a USB with a Windows_7_Recovery_Disc iso (as shown here Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - Windows 7 Help Forums) but it also doesn't work. I get the blue screen that I attached and none of the options do anything.

Any idea what's going on? I've been going crazy about this problem for 2 days and was really counting on EasyRE to solve it easily.

Thanks in advance!
Miguel

Booting into Win8.1 Home requires the XP partition. How to Remove XP?

$

I have a 7yr old Dell (core2 duo) which started with XP and now has both XP and Win8.1 x64 Home.
XP and Win8 are on different physical drives but booting Win8 will hang if I remove the XP drive.
I want to completely remove XP so I have only Win8.
I uploaded 2 attachments: A screen capture of Drive Manager; and
EasyBCD Detailed Settings info ( http://tny.cz/be35804b )

FWIW....

  • I plan to install a SSD after I get XP removed. I could get the SSD now if that would make it easier to fix.
  • The Dell has an Intel Raid controller but none of the volumes are striped/spanned.

Thanks for any suggestions

OxcOOOOOOf error

Hello...I am completely desperate and Ive never asked for help before but i dont know what to do anymore.

So i bring my Toshiba P505 Win 7 out of hibernation and the service station has a flag that my battery performance is poor and my hard disk has errors. It instructs me to right click on the drive and properties-tools-check drive for errors. This proceeds for hours. After all sectors, etc are scanned Windows no longer boots and i receive the 0xc000000f error screen.

Mind you im only an average user with only knowledge Ive gleaned from reading online. So I input my Win 7 recovery disk which takes forever to load..and try startup repair. No OS is found. It attempted partition table repair and failed. error code =0×490

Reading further I begin messing with command prompts and run bcdboot commands: fix, etc. All complete successfully. I then run Diskpart to find out the 100mb System reserve is intact but my main drive is now RAW. I dont know much but this isnt exactly good.

I routinely back up data but havent backed up pics in 2 to 3 months and from the looks of it, all is lost?!!

Can someone please help me recover data and/or if possible reestablish a working computer??

Im sorry and thank you in advance for your time.

Machine: Dell Inspiron 14R 5437
Pre-installed OS: Windows 8
Dual boot: Linux Mint Xfce 17
EasyBCD version: 2.2
Error: file \bcd status 0xc0000098

How it happened:
- Machine restored to factory setting.
- Grub corrupted. Machine direct boot to Windows loader. Need to boot UEFI to boot into Mint.
- EasyBCD installed; BCD reseted but forgot to add new entry.
- Error as above.
- Linux partition missing. Have to reinstall Linux or else my laptop become unusable.

Workaround:
- Rebuilding BCD fail from Gandalf's Win8PE. The requested system device cannot be found.
- Reinstall BCD from Gandalf's Win8PE, reset, restore backup, add new, they all fail.
- I don't have recovery disk or disc either for Dell or Windows 8.

Badly need to boot back to Windows 8 ASAP for some task. Thank you.

P.s: From my search, no else got similar problem. I'm dumb maybe? Sigh...

multi boot / twin boot manager mess - HELP!

Hello,

My former setup was a dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 and SuseLinux. To exchange SuseLinux for Kali Linux I deleted the four Linux partitions and left them as unallocated space. Using the Windows Repair Disk I corrected the MBR and got to the point of normally starting Windows without problems.
Now I generated the regular four partitions and installed Kali Linux, but the Grub loader did not include the Windows OS nor appeared at startup. Using EasyBCD the system now starts up with the choice of loading Windows or Kali Linux. If I choose Kali Linux it first presents me a page asking me to enter the Bitlocker unlock key for my encrypted data partition and just continuing with the ESC key it enters the Grub loader and again I can choose between Kali Linux or Windows 7. I would like to clean up this mess, but I’m not sure about how, so every help would be highly appreciated. Currently my drive has the following partitions setup:

  • 105MB NTFS System Reserved F: [dev/sda1] (primary partition)
  • 106GB NTFS C: [/dev/sda2] (System, Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, primary partition)
  • 299MB Ext4 [/dev/sda6] (mounted at /boot, Active, primary partition)
  • 18GB Ext4 [/dev/sda7] (mounted at /, primary partition)
  • 7.6GB Ext4 [/dev/sda8] (mounted at /home, primary partition)
  • 4GB Linux Swap Space [/de/sda9] Primary partition
  • 320.76GB HPFS/NTFS [/dev/sda5] (BitLocker Encrypted) Logical drive

Hope this all is not to confusing Thanks in advance for your help!:??

How do I install additional OS?

I just purchased EasyBCD.
I run Windows 8.1.
I have a PC with two hard drive.
I would like to install Windows 2008 Server for which I have the installation DVD on the second hard drive.
In EasyBCD 2.2, I clicked the "Add New Entry" button and created an entry for Type = Windows Vista/7/8, Name = Win 2008 Server, Drive = D:\.
To complete the process, I clicked the Add Entry button.
Under Edit Boot Menu, there are two entries listed, a) Windows 8.1, which is the Default and b) Win 2008 Server.

I think I'm all set.

What is the next step in installing my new OS?
Do I simply boot off Win2k8 installation DVD and designate drive D: for installation?
And then, on reboot, EasyBCD friendly menu will come up to let me choose between the two OSs?

Having glanced at some of the posts, I made a backup of EasyBCD settings on my C: drive. Is that OK?

Multi boot not working

Hi members.
I had easybcd working fine using win 8 and 7 on two separate hard drives. I installed a third hard drive and installed the same version of win 7. When the boot menu loads I have the option of win 8 and two win 7's, the latest one won't boot, it says to install the windows cd and do a boot repair. I'm afraid to do that in case I stuff the original boot setup.
When adding a new OP to the boot menu do I make it 'C' volume? There must be something I'm doing wrong when adding a new OP.
Any help is appreciated

Windows XP registry hack keeps security updates rolling for the dead operating system

"Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in April, but a simple registry hack lets users continue to get security updates. The hack, as reported by ZDNet, fools Microsoft into thinking the system is running Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, a variant of XP that's used by ATMs and cash registers. Those systems will keep getting security updates until 2019."
